Businesses concerned about rising energy costs

The Maine Public Utilities Commission said nearly half of Maine’s medium-sized businesses in the Central Maine Power service area could see the cost of supplying electricity jump from six cents a kilowatt hour to nearly 15 cents by February under the standard offer price.

The cost of supply electricity starts in the fuel pipeline, where demand is high for natural gas heat. What’s left is purchased to run generators that create power and that’s a problem that’s striking New England hard.
